==Biography==

Basil von Burmann was born in 1891 in Warsaw (then in the Russian Empire, now in Poland), into a family of Baltic Germans, being of Orthodox religion. He participated in the World War I and Russian Civil War. Von Burmann received the rank of colonel in the Alexander Kolchak's Army. He emigrated to Yugoslavia, where he married. During World War II, he fought in the Russian security body on the side of Germany against the Josip Broz Tito's guerrillas, who killed his wife. After the war, he was imprisoned in a prisoner camp, but was able to escape and refuged abroad. In 1949 he entered a novice in the Benedictine order. In 1955 von Burmann was consecrated hierodeacon. Deacon von Burmann died on 30 October 1959 in Saint Procopius Abbey in Illinois (USA).
